Compatibility & Fitment
This rinse aid cap fits the dispenser assembly of most modern Whirlpool-built dishwashers. Key compatible brands and series include:
- KitchenAid: Fits KDT, KDF, KUDE, and KUDL series (e.g., KDTM354ESS, KDTE104ESS).
- Whirlpool: Compatible with WDT, WDF, and WDTA series (e.g., WDT720PADM, WDT970SAHZ).
- Maytag: Fits MDB series models (e.g., MDB4949SDH, MDB8959SFZ).
- Jenn-Air & Kenmore: Compatible with 665 series (Sears/Kenmore) and high-end Jenn-Air units utilizing the W10524920 dispenser style.
When to Replace
- Missing Cap: The original cap has been lost or accidentally thrown away with food scraps.
- Leaking Rinse Aid: You notice the rinse aid reservoir empties much faster than usual, or there are blue streaks on the inside of the door.
- Broken Tabs: The plastic locking "ears" on the bottom of the cap have snapped off, preventing it from staying locked in the dispenser.
- Damaged Gasket: The internal rubber seal is cracked, swollen, or missing, allowing water to enter the rinse aid chamber.
- Stripped Slot: The top adjustment or removal slot is rounded out, making it impossible to turn the cap with a coin or thumb.
Installation Tips
- Cleaning: Before installing the new cap, wipe away any dried rinse aid residue around the dispenser opening to ensure a flush seal.
- Alignment: Align the tabs on the bottom of the cap with the notches in the dispenser housing.
- Locking: Insert the cap and turn it approximately 1/4 turn clockwise until it stops or the arrow on the cap aligns with the "Lock" icon on the dispenser.
- Do Not Overtighten: The cap only needs to be snug to seal; using pliers or excessive force can crack the plastic dispenser housing.
- Maintenance: If you struggle to turn the cap, a very small drop of vegetable oil on the rubber gasket can help it glide into place more easily.
