De uitbundige bloeitijd is van begin juni tot eind augustus, in deze periode verspreiden de bloemen een heerlijke zoete geur. De klimplant heeft ovale, donkergroene bladeren en ondersteuning nodig van een klimrek of schutting om goed te kunnen groeien. De nieuw uitlopende takken van deze sterjasmijn krullen langs een gaaswerk of schutting mooi omhoog. De beste plaats is zonnig tot halfschaduw en uit de volle wind. De sterjasmijn kan in de volle grond geplant worden in een normale voedselrijke grond. Ook in een ruime pot op het terras of balkon groeit de sterjasmijn goed.
