COURSE OVERVIEW:
Welcome to the Innovative Leadership for Creativity & Originality course. This program will equip you with the leadership behaviours, strategic frameworks, and practical tools required to inspire creativity, drive innovation, and build an organisational culture where original thinking is encouraged and valued. You will explore how innovative leaders challenge assumptions, remove barriers, empower people, and create the conditions where new ideas can emerge, be tested, and succeed.
This course begins by examining the importance of being an innovative leader and how to lead innovation within your organisation through clear direction, inclusive engagement, and strategic experimentation. You will explore why having a vision for change is essential, what a declaration of innovation is, and why issuing one strengthens organisational commitment. This section also explains how to fight the fear of change, set goals for innovation, remove persistent cynics who block progress, and encourage respectful dissent to expose blind spots and spark new thinking. You will explore why thinking like a venture capitalist helps leaders assess risk and opportunity, how to break down internal barriers to communication, and why your best people should be placed on innovation initiatives where they can influence outcomes most strongly. This section concludes with how to diagnose your current situation, what an innovation audit achieves, how to analyse problems effectively, the benefits of problem-analysis tools, and how to use the “six serving men” tool to understand issues thoroughly.
The next learning area focuses on the generation and development of ideas. You will explore how to generate ideas intentionally, the importance of having a suggestions scheme, and how to run internal idea-generation events that encourage participation and creativity. This section explains how to plan brainstorm meetings, how many people should participate, what types of participants to invite, how long a brainstorming meeting should last, and who should facilitate the session. You will also examine how to capture ideas, what criteria to use when evaluating them, and how to energise brainstorming sessions to maintain enthusiasm and productivity. Additional techniques explored in this section include reversing the problem, defining your ideal competitor, using the “pass the parcel” technique, and applying the “six thinking hats” method to challenge perspectives and broaden thinking.
A further part of the program explores how to implement innovation processes effectively. You will learn how to allocate time and resources to innovation, how to borrow ideas with pride by learning from others, and how to train employees to build innovation capability across all levels. This section also examines how to measure and monitor progress to ensure innovation initiatives remain aligned with goals, and the various approaches for rewarding and recognising innovative ideas and successful innovations. You will also explore the key steps for success in open innovation, why observing customers leads to breakthrough insights, and why appointing innovation champions strengthens communication and momentum across the organisation.
The final learning area focuses on sustaining innovation through leadership support and cultural development. You will explore how to overcome customer resistance to new products or services, how to build a creative organisational culture, and why innovators should be praised to reinforce positive behaviours. This section explains why focusing on what went right supports constructive learning and why trusting your team is essential for innovation to flourish. These principles help leaders create workplaces where creativity is encouraged, risk-taking is supported, and original thinking becomes part of everyday operations.
By the end of this course you will be able to lead innovation strategically, facilitate creative thinking, implement and sustain innovation processes, empower employees, overcome organisational barriers, support idea development, and build a culture where creativity and originality drive long-term success.
