WOW! That's what you - and all the visitors to your garden - will say when they see Cityline Mars hydrangea in bloom. It's so pretty, it almost seems impossible that it exists! Each floret on the full mophead blooms is lushly saturated with deep pink or purple-blue, outlined by a white edge that makes it look like something out of a fairytale. The foliage is very dark green and deeply ribbed, completing the picture-perfect look.
What makes Cityline Mars different from other bigleaf hydrangeas?
- Two-toned blooms: white edge plus pink or blue
- Rugged dark green foliage contrasts with flowers and resists diseases
Details:
Name: Hydrangea macrophylla 'Ramars'
Hardiness: USDA zones 5-9
Height x width: 2-3'
Light: Full to part sun
Soil: Evenly moist but well-drained soils are best. A 2-3" layer of shredded bark mulch is recommended in all areas, all year round.
Pruning: Blooms on old wood; do not trim or cut back, but dead wood may be removed in early spring
Water: Average to high water needs. Though big leaf hydrangeas cannot grow in wet soils, they can become drought stressed readily and should be watered regularly. Plants in full sun and/or warmer climates will need more water than those in less sun and/or cooler areas.
Fertilizer: Fertilize once in early spring with a rose fertilizer if desired.
Bloom time: Early to mid summer.
Bloom color: Flower color depends on soil pH; colorful portion of the florets will be a deep blue-purple in acidic conditions and a bright, rich pink in neutral to alkaline sites.
Uses: A classic choice for including in gardens and landscaping, it also makes a nice choice for low hedges and containers.
