Join us for an interactive workshop taught by French botanist and phytochemist Michel Garcia on the exciting topic of natural indigo dyeing. Garcia is renowned worldwide for his knowledge and understanding of natural dyes and their chemistry.
On Day 1, Michel explains the what and how of indigo dyestuff. He demonstrates fructose and iron vat preparations.
On Day 2, Michel describes the different varieties of plant species containing indigo found worldwide and how indigo is prepared by different cultures. Michel addresses the variables such as temperature and pH that must be adjusted for dyeing various fibers.
